Help with Gitzo G-1348 tripod

A simple question.

 

I am about to buy a Gitzo G-1348 tripod. I am going to try and do

without the centre column, at least to start with.

 

Can I use it directly with a Manfrotto/Bogen 3421 head, or do I have

to buy an adapter of some sort?

A G-1348 should come with a center plate if it does not have a column. If not, the center plates are inexpensive. There is a 3/8"-16 stud in the plate that will fit a Bogen head. The center plate can be replace by a column (rapid or geared), or by a leveling head at any time.

It does come with a centre plate. A tripod head can be mounted. If you don't need the extra extension of the centre column, then this setup is preferable for stability.
