christopher.
Any good photo publications out there? I have just let my shutterbug expire. Most of the publications I see are either all pics, or all reviews and technical info. Anything out there with a better mix?
adnan
For my money, Lenswork.

Spearhead
Hamburger Eyes rocks. I also like Nueva Luz. Didn't this question come up 10 days ago? Music and Portraits Blog: Life in Portugal
el_fang
<i>"Didn't this question come up 10 days ago?"</i> <p>Maybe, but it's a hell of a lot more interesting than the "this lens vs that" or "this bag vs that" which come up every 10 hours or so. david_s4
Jeff, are you referring to <a href="http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=008mwB">this thread</a> on Outdoor Photographer magazine?
andrew_rose
A lot of people find it pretentious, and it is to an extent, but the photography in Aperture is superb. And the writing is actually prettty good as a rule.
zpuskas
I agree, Lenswork is a fine magazine/publication. Good quality printing, photographs, and interviews.
michael_matsil
Here's a thread I started last December on this subject: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=006pbv
paul_sharratt
The best publications are the ones I read for free courtesy of Barnes&Noble or Borders. That said the big boxes usually carry Lenswork (Yes!), Camera Arts, Photo, Zoom, B&W, Photo Technique and others.
bill_barton
Also how about "EIGHT'
billc1
Chris check out TRP, The Railroad Press it is an exellent publication that comes out 4 times a year. The magaizine displays train photos in color and in black and white. Under each photo there is a caption telling a story and technical info. mike dixon
It's not strictly a photo mag, but the August edition of Korean <i>Vogue</i> has some cool stuff, and it comes with a free book by K.T. Kim called <i>People</i> that has hundreds of behind-the-scenes shots of the fashion world.
fredus
LensWork and of course Aperture are two of my favorite. Fred
mike_elek
Black & White Photography (not to be confused with B&W). Black & White Photography is a U.K. monthly magazine (www.thegmcgroup.com). Good mix of technical and artistic offerings.
djphoto
Lenswork is good, but not worth the price, IMO. Same with Camera Arts. I get Pop Photo because it's free, and a couple of freebie trade publications (Rangefinder and Studio Photography). I sometimes buy Black & White Photography at B&N. I used to get many photo magazines, but now I find more and better reading on the net in forums such as this one. I don't, however, find viewing photos on a computer screen very satisfying, so I spend my magazine money (and more!) on books by photographers I like. I have almost everything Elliott Erwitt has ever done except his book of architectural photos. I also have most of David Douglas Duncan's books, including several copies of his Korean War book, in case anyone is interested.
gerry_szarek
Not a photo magazine, but has great photos is "Gray's Sporting Journal" 4 times a year. Nice but very expensive, tilts toward the great white hunter for you vegetarians.

thomas_sullivan
so, Jeff and Brad..........did a google on Hamburger Eyes.....is that buyolympia.com (or something like that at) the only place to get it..........or can you buy it at a store too? ...as far as photo mags, I've subscribed to a bunch of them, or bought them in stores consistently...........I seemed to get bored with them after about a year...although Aperture's 50 year book (Past Forward, I believe)of excerpts of various issues/articles/photos of their mag is superb....anyhow, right now, i too am looking for a new mag to try out........Hamburger Eyes seems interesting. lee_shively
Now that you mention it, I gave up on NG a couple of years ago and told my wife to stop giving the subscription to me as a Christmas present each year. Basically, I found it boring as dirt except for, maybe, a couple of issues a year. I can buy those at B&N if the spirit moves me.
Brad_
Tom, I've only seen Hamburger Eyes in a few stores in SF. You can order from the HE website and also from their distributor, lastgasp.com. Looks like the place you mentioned has it too. It's worth finding - chaotic and fun, and cheap at $5. www.citysnaps.net
thomas_sullivan
that lastgasp distributor certainly has some weird magazines.......jeez thanks Brad........I think ;o)
