anne_marie_mitchell
hi! i just got a job for photographing a major fashion show. its a 'high end celebrity' event in Hollywood. ... and its tonight!Im a fashion photographer, but i haven't done a fashion event before... and i dont know exactly what to take. I have a nikon d-70 dslr, but should i get another flash to take instead of jst using the on-camera flash? if so which one? Do i need to take a tripod?Usually id just take everything just incase but this is a huge event and i dont want to look as if iv never done it before...Any advice is appreciated!!!thanks!Anne-Marie
art_haykin
If it's as big and high-end as you say it is, you shouldn't be covering it, or at least not without a seasoned pro to guide you. What will be your comebacker if you mess it up?
Jerry_
If you had two or three weeks to get ready, would you be any more well-informed? Without having several memory cards, at least one back-up 'external' flash, a flash cord, a flash bracket, and two or three batteries for your camera body: why worry over the results? It's too late. digidurst
Gee folks - how about some encouragement! Somebody must think she's up to the task or she wouldn't have gotten the job :-) Sorry I don't have any advice to give but surely someone who utilizes this forum can give you some pointers! streetlevel
congrats on the contract! I'd definitely take an off camera flash. (At least a good cobra-head ie. Sb-800, or 80DX) Monopod if you have it - for the most part, the ones I've been to there is no room for a full on tri-pod Sorry - if this is too late to help. anne_marie_mitchell
thank you so much for your responses ellen and will! I just finished the job and i have some awesome images! i ended up renting a bracket and flash... but it worked out very well & my work will soon be in print... very excited! i guess the only advice i would have given to someone in my position is to have confidence & and a couple extra compact flash cards! thanks again for your advice and encouragement!! xoxo Anne-Marie
digidurst
Awesome! I'm glad to hear it worked out (not surprised). Ya know, I think sometimes before a big shoot we can get ourselves pretty worked up - like an actor getting ready to go on stage - but then we get there with our camera in hand and it all comes together. harryo
Anne-Marie, great to hear it all turned out fine. I think it is wonderful when someone goes out of their comfort zone and does so successfully. So much for the "You are not Pro enough" attitude you get from some people. Congrats...
