shafeeq_sinnamohideen2
I've noticed that focusing using the viewfinder image and using the AFindicator give noticeably different results, with the AF beingcorrect. Can't decide if its getting worse over time or if I've justbeen shooting in less light lately. Does recalibrating require a tripall the way back to Nikon, or is this something other shops can do ? Thanks,
joseph_wisniewski
What camera do you have? In many Nikons, the screen is held in place by a spring clip, and if this ends up out of position you get exactly what you're describing. The clips in F100, N90, and 8008 are easy to pop back into place. The clips for N80, D100, D70, N75, N70 are very tricky, since they're designed only for service center use, not for easy changing of screens by the user. Aside from that, there are "bumpers" that the mirror lands on that affect AF accuracy, although they typically affect both AF and screen accuracy. shafeeq_sinnamohideen2
The camera is a D100 - I only wish the screens were user changeable.
alan_wilder1
I've got an F100 and main mirror focus re-calibration is a simple task requiring only the use of an allen wrench. On my camera the eccentric mirror stop on the right side of the mirror box wall has a hex shaped hole in it. With the mirror up and by using a 5/64" wrench, I can rotate the eccentric mirror stop thus adjusting the mirror setting to tweak focus. The D100 however, may differ in placement, design or wrench size.
joseph_wisniewski
Shafeeq - The D100 and D70 do have interchangable focusing screens. http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=008onY
antonrussell
This can also happen if you haven't been to the optician's in a while - my friend shot with an astigmatism for years and didn't know why all his close-ups were out of focus when they looked great through the viewfinder!
