buck_rogers1
Does the current Russian firmware hack enabling 2nd curtain flash syncronization actually work? ie. Will a 420EX speedlight use 2nd curtain on the Drebel?

PuppyDigs
Wait for the 580EX to appear and bid on dirt cheap 550EX Speedlites on Ebay... Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
jimstrutz
Puppy might be right, but I'm guessing the price will take a bit longer to fall to $200 for a used 550EX. The Sigma EF-500 DG Super will work on the DRebel and offers second curtain sync, along with almost all of the 550EX features and power for about $200. It's not built as well as the Canon Speedlites though. The older, non DG versions also work well with the DRebel, and can be found used for a lot less since Sigma equipment doesn't seem to hold its value at all. Either one will work as a wireless E-TTL master to your 420EX if you keep it. That can be handy at times.
