sc21
I read about the Hidden Elements tools and found a download at Paul Shipley's site. http://member.melbpc.org.au/~pshipley/Download.htm He says to put the unzipped file in the Elements folder in Program Files. "You will know if you have the right directory as it will contain the Photoshop Elements executable (PhotoshopElements.exe)." I can't find this. Is it a folder in Elements, or a subfolder or application or what? Also, what connection does he have with Richard Lynch, who wrote the book, and does any of this really work? I'm looking for Curves, which isn't in Elements 2.0 or 3.0. Thanks.
beauh44
Hi Steve, PhotoshopElements.exe sounds like the executable program file. Here's one way to find it: 1) Locate the icon in Windoze that you click on to start Elements 2) Right Click the icon, then select Properties. 3) You'll see a field that says "Target:" and beside that is the complete path to the folder that contains the executable file, which is presumably where you're supposed to put the unzipped files. I'm afraid I know nothing about Mr. Lynch, the book or the software. Good luck!
tom_swanson
I've used Ling's SnapActions. http://www.geocities.com/rnlnero/PE2stuff2.html www.atncentral.com (or something like that) is another good action resource.
paul -
If you downloaded the files directly from <a href="http://member.melbpc.org.au/~pshipley/Download.htm">the page you mention above</a>, I doubt you have <a href="http://www.hiddenelements.com./">Richard Lynch's copyrighted "Hidden Power" tools</a>. From the looks of that page, you have tools that Paul Shipley put together. What tools those are, I do not know.<p>As far as installation goes, Paul's instructions are clear: just drop the COMPRESSED "Extra.zip" file into the Elements folder (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements) like he says (not into a folder inside the Photoshop Elements folder), and THEN unzip the file.<p>Richard Lynch's tools are available on the CD that comes with his book, "The Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements 2", and require a password to unlock/install. I used them with Elements before moving up to CS, and they do indeed work as promised. Richard Lynch also has a plugin for sale on his website to add his version of a Healing Brush (Hidden Power Mend Tool) to Elements.
sc21
Thanks, all. I did drop the unzipped file into the Elements folder, and nothing happened, just like when I tried it last year. I also sent a note to Richard Lynch, on his site, and he said he's e-mail friends with Shipley and doesn't begrudge him giving away his own stuff for free 'cause Lynch doesn't make much on it himself. Lynch also said he couldn't get Shipley's actions to work, either. It's okay - I'm gonna move up to CS anyway. Just wanted to make sure I had all my options covered. And by the way, for those interested, Lynch has already written actions for Elements 3.0, as you can find on his site.
richard_lynch
Hope I am helping here... <p>First: yes, the tools really work. About 20,000 readers have used them. They work on Mac and PC for elements 1 and 2. Tools for Elements 3 will be available with the release of the new version of the book. <p>Paul S. is making Curves available for Elements 2..I don't know if he will for Elements 3. <p>As for my tools, there are several different sets. The most complete set is currently had by buying the Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements 2 (<a href="http:// aps8.com/ hppe.html">http://aps8.com/ hppe.html</a>). My tools for Elements 3 are already done, and the book will be out in December (<a href="http://aps8.com/ hppe3.html">http://aps8.com/ hppe3.html</a>). i may be making the tools available separately. There is a free tool set on my site that has tools that are different than the ones included with the book. <a href="http://hiddenelements.com/ freetools.html">http://hiddenelements.com/freetools.html</a>. i also sell a healing tool (<a href="http://hiddenelements.com/Mend">http:// hiddenelements.com/Mend</a>) and a tool I call dynamic image which improves just about any image (<a href="http://hiddenelements.com/ dynamic">http://hiddenelements.com/dynamic</a>). these latter tools will work with Elements 3 as well. I am considering making a tool set including curves available separate from the book. Send an email if you are interested: <a href="mailto:thebookdoc@aol.com">thebookdoc@aol.com</a> <p>As far as snap actions...there is nothing that can do that my tools can't. It is just an interface to run actions. in fact, I showed the person who created that how to do it...thinking they were going to help me out. They surprised me with a separate release, and it has been impossible to explain, and causing many people a lot of confusion. In short, snapactions will play actions. So will me free tools. My sets come with added functionality that you can't get in snapactions. That is because I actually develop photographic methods...the creator of snapactions is a programmer, not a professional image editor. <p>Please let me know if you have further questions. <p>Richard Lynch
