My C-3040Z has a very good lens but the sensor cannot handle extremes in lighting. The sensor produces blooming and other odd effects. There may be some manufacturer putting a pro quality sensor in a consumer grade P&S digicam but I don't know of any. That's why you pay the big bucks for something like your 10D.
