larry_benjamin
Hi, This may be a silly question but do you see any problems with scanning negatives that have been exposed using a linear polarizing filter ? I have an old rangefinder & don't want the added expense of purchasing a circular polarizer. Thanking you in advance for your input. Cheers, Larry
beauh44
I think you'll be fine, Larry. I sometimes use a linear polarizer and never noticed any problems scanning the negs. Good luck!
marshall
The effect on the final image isn't different. The reason for circular polarizers has to do with split-beam metering and focus systems, and not anything different about the result.
larry_benjamin
I was aware of the use of circular vs linear use in modern metering/focusing systems but was wondering if the the linear would interact with the scanning lines in some way ??? IE Banding or artifacts caused by interferance ? Cheers, Larry
marshall
There is no difference in the negative. The negative doesn't respond differently to polarized light regardless of which kind of polarizer. The polarizer affects what light is let through and then the negative responds to that light just as it would any other light.
larry_benjamin
Thanks you Gents for most valuable your input, Marshal.... that makes sense ! I didn't know myself, so i thought i would check. Cheers, Larry
