k_michael
My S2 would not opereate through the IEEE 1394 port. The computer would not recognize the camera. Photo Tech in NYC said the circuit board was shot and a replacement would cost $460. The work was done, I took the camera home and it still would not work. Once I took it back, Photo Tech says I destroyed the pin connection deep inside the IEEE 1394 port which is part of the circuit board they replaced. I'm not one to put "square pegs in round holes" and the IEEE 1394 cable is the only one that will fit any way, shape or form. Payment on the Mastercard will be stopped and I am going to bring it to Fuji in NJ for there evaluation. Any feedback on whatI just posted? craig_gillette
I'd be very careful about using that cable on anything until you or a tech with suitable illumination and magnification have it looked at very closely. And maybe check it with an inexpensive connector or jig to be sure it's pins are all in place, connectivity is correct, etc. It's a possibility that if the cable is damaged in some way, it's damaging the camera connection. Reinserting it in something before you verify it's condition may be a problem. I can't comment on the reparability of the board, replaceability of a connector, or cost, trouble shooting skills, etc.
richard_burke1
I had the same problem with one of my computers, a laptop running Windows XP home. I upgraded to XP Pro and the problem went away. Running a fire wire port on anything but XP Pro can be a problem. I hope you did not spend $460 for nothing.
wickedmartini
Do you have all of your S2 software loaded? Does Windows even pick up on it as a device? Have you tried hooking it up to another computer? mdd
k_michael
All the software for the camera has been installed. A technician looked at the cable and said the cable is fine. Fuji now has the camera. I will see what they have to tell me. The camera initially worked with XP and ME.
chepas_nigs
if try to look inside the firewire cable, you can see that the pins (4-pins or 6 pins type) are embedded in a hard plastic casing. it's quite impossible to bend those pins without having to destroy that plastic support. unless of course you do something extraordinary. k_michael
Yeah, the cable is fine. No damage at all. The camera is Fuji's hands. They seem mystified as to why it won't work properly.
k_michael
I talked to Fuji yesterday. Whatever happened, I don't know. But they did say it was fixed with no charge to me.
k_michael
And I got it all back today and it still does not work. My laptop has 512mb of RAM and Windows XP.
