babette_ross
Can someone tell me what they think went wrong here, this shot is one of several on the same roll with this kind of banding... i dont' see a problem on the negative. I've been using a minolta scan dual iv... i always have to adjust the levels on each channel b/c the minolta tends to clip the highlights and the shadows... my workflow is relatively consistent and this problem has not cropped up before. Thanks in advance!<div></div>
Ed_Ingold
Are you using a glass carrier? This looks a little like Newton's Rings. Other possibilities include faulty development: excessive or inadequate agitation, depleted chemicals. The image may also be underexposed. If so, your corrections will exaggerate minor variations in density. It's really hard to see problems in color negatives directly, due to the strong masking color. You may be over-correcting. Try getting back to a baseline and do the corrections in photoshop.
bill_d
I'm stumped. I don't think it's Newton rings because they are not concentric, unless you cropped far into the image and we are only seeing a small piece.
Ed_Ingold
Newton's Rings don't have to be concentric. After all, they're just interference patterns. Film curled into a cylindrical shape could cause patterns like this.
babette_ross
Hi, Thanks for taking the time to look. In answer to questions - i was not using glass carrier. And this is more or less full frame, maybe a few centimeters chopped off all 4 sides... Any suggestions how to get a decent image out of it? I have more or less a full role with the problem (subsquent roll shot and developed at the same time are fine.)
glen peterson
I have seen similar results, but only on an older scanner, when batch scanning. When I scanned images individually I didn't have the problem.
babette_ross
Wow, i was batch scanning! i'll have to try again single frame. Thanks for the idea.
