alain_martinez
Good morning all, I have a Boudoir photoshoot coming up, and the model has asked me whether or not she should tan. Her skin tone is already tanned as it is. She told me she'll have no tan lines (if you know what I mean). In general, are there any other objections to a model tanning before a shoot? Thanks in advance
lucas_griego
The tan is basically up to your clients discretion. If she want's a tan in the shot - then sure why not. Since it's boudoir (and not erotica or porn shoot) then tan lines are not too attractive. You could always slip a warm up filter on if you just wanted warmer skin tones - but if she is white-white with bluish veins popping out then a tan may help a bit. Really it comes down to what kind of shots the client (your model in this case) wants.
snapsnapgringrin
I'd suggest going with a tan. But I'd also suggest her doing it a week or so beforehand just to give optimum time in case it doesn't come out well! (If she burns, I don't think a boudoir shot is going to be very pleasant for her!)
alain_martinez
Well like I said, she's tanned naturally, but my concern was mainly about the colors (saturated red) or something like that. The pictures will be Boudoir, no erotica nor porn Thanks
zack phillips
If i were shooting her i would say no to the tan before the session. Boudoir images should reflect the model in her natural settings and i just personally prefer a model with natural looking skin when shooting this type of image. Now if you were shooting glamour, i would probably say yes to the tan. Thats just me though.
ZackPhillips.com
randy_skopar
<<if she is white-white with bluish veins popping out then a tan may help a bit>> People with that kind of skin can't get a tan! :-) If she's like that, you will need body makeup. raymondborg
I really hate tan lines showing in my picture. The skin looks more natural with an overall tan. I would suggest that if she has tan lines (like the form of a bikini) showing, she needs to tan. Care should be taken not to burn the skin.
stuart_meyer
As a wedding photographer, I've photographed people who got a tan at a tanning salon, and for some reason they look very orange. A dark tan from the sun is only a slight improvement. Not sure if it's the digital camera doing this, but trying to fix it afterward is a nightmare (and I even shoot RAW). This is not a problem at all with naturally dark skinned people, only people who get tanned by several shades darker than their natural skin color. So, I tell my clients that the little bit of sun that peaks through sunscreen to stimulate their melanin is just perfect. Please, no tanning from either a tanning bed or from the sun before I photograph your wedding. Stuart Meyer - Indianapolis Wedding Photographer
