nick_w.
I'm interested in finding the cheapest fisheye lens for Nikon mount. I don't care about the quality of the lens. I just want the fisheye look and I want to pay very little for it. Are there some Russian lenses out there? Has anybody had any success with those fisheye adapters that you screw onto the end of your regular lens? I would prefer lenses that approximate the look of about 8-12mm. I really want to pay less than $100. Thanks.
kevin_hundsnurscher
Not exactly what you may be looking for, but Vivitar makes a 19mm f3.8 lens that sells for $50.00 used.
jpoutasse
I read an article many years ago about making one by buying a door peephole (can be found at any hardware store) and mounting in a hole cut in a lenscap. It's worth a try as it wouldn't cost much. Jackie
jim_mcbride
The 19mm Vivitar is a full-frame lens (not a fish-eye) and is actually a pretty good lens for most film work.
armando_roldan
I got a fisheye attachment at .42x which made my 24-85mm seem like 10mm fisheye. It screwed into my filter threads and it give a round image at 24mm and 35mm effect at 85mm. It was fun and cheap, only about $49 from Adorama. eric friedemann
Here, these can be mounted on the front of SLR lenses and aren't too bad: http://www.adorama.com/LNFE48.html?searchinfo=fisheye&item_no=
nathan_dandar
I've heard of many having very good luck with the Zenitar 16mm f/2.8 fisheye lens. They sell new for $110 which is a bit over your budget but the maximum aperture is fast and I've seen VERY nice, high quality photos taken with them. Surprising! Check Ebay. ravi_swamy
The Zenitar 16mm is f2.8. I've used one on my FE2 and it's a lot of fun but at certain times I see a lot of flare and ghosts when the sun is just out of view of the frame. As long as the sun is far away I find the images to be quite sharp. The lens is pretty nice mechanically and for the price it's a great deal. maylon_roberts
For $189 (?) you can get the Peleng fisheye from rugift.com. This is a circular fisheye lens that comes will mount on your Nikon camera (AI mount). I got one a while ago and am pleased with it.
francois_gauthier
You want a 'circular' fisheye. To have a round picture in your rectangular frame, you will need a 0.42x over a 28mm lens. Over that (35 to 50mm), the circle will exceed the frame and it will look like a huge vignetting. Under that (24mm and less), it will only make the circle smaller. Most of these devices are poor quality but on a good fixed focal 28mm close down to F11 they can be fun. The cheapest real one is the Peleng but it is more than $100. elliot
8-12mm? so... circular fisheye? you could get the peleng lens. I have no experience with that one. The sigma is an option for a circular, although much more expensive. If you're willing to go for the 16mm (full frame) look, the zenitar is your best bet, hands down. hands down.
