les
Does someone know what is going on ? In short: B&H lists two 24-70/2.8 Sigma lenses. The first one at $409.00 has a designation: Sigma Zoom Wide Angle- Telephoto 24-70mm f/2.8 EX Aspherical DF. Weight 1.54lb. The second one at $429.95 has a designation: Sigma Zoom Wide Angle- Telephoto 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro DF. Weight 1.6lb. Sigma website lists Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 EX Aspherical DG DF (I assume it is the same lens listed above at $409.00, despite lack of DG in B&H description). Anyone knows a difference between them ? Now: the Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 EX DG DF is no longer listed on B&H site. Adorama, however, lists Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 EX DG (notice no DF,and the picture of the lens is different compared to what I remember, so maybe it really is the old old version - pre DF). Sigma website, in turn, lists this one: Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 EX Aspherical DF (and it look different to what is shown at Adorama site). Plus there is a new Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 EX DG shown on Sigma website (with 67mm filter), looks like a match for Tamron 28-75/2.8 (hopefully it will be as good). And of course ther is Sigma 24-60/2.8 EX DG (new). So, a general question: what is going on ? What a mess ! How many DIFFERENT Sigmas (24-70 and 28-70) are currently IN PRODUCTION ? les
I am not showing the 24-60/2.8 (77mm filter) and the new 28-70/2.8 (67mm filter) as they really are new lenses. But what about the four that are shown ? The first two (24-70) are indeed different, at list visually (gold ring location, f-stop scale near the mount, letter D after the 24-70 description etc.) What about the 28-70s ? les
Correction to the original post: what is nolonger listed on B&H site is: Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 EX DF, not Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 EX DG DF.
les
It appears that the second 24-70 shown is for Nikon ? Although at B&H it was listed for Canon ?
ian_hobday
The images that show the manually adjustable aperture at the base of the lens are definitely not for EOS bodies. Whether that is a text typo or a mistake with the image displayed I can not say.

Otherwise I don't have any help to offer... Very happy with my 28-70 2.8L so have not been looking at this market area at all.

Good luck with your shopping!

Ian
--
Ian Hobday
Osaka, Japan
http://hobday.net/photos (Opens in a new window.) bevan_donovan
The 'EX DG' series of both the 24 & 28-70 have just been announced by Sigma, I think some time in the last week. I'm figuring these are both to replace the 'EX DF' versions. FWIW I think the 24-70 is still an 82mm filter where as you mentioned the 28-70 is now a 67mm. Again FWIW the zoom/focussing rings of both the new lenses, as well as the 17-35 EX ASP DG, look very Canon like in appearance, unlike the earlier 'EX' versions. phil vaughan - yorkshire u
My guess is that simply Sigma have recently updated their lenses (their product lines last for a much shorter period than most other makers), and the various dealers are holding some older stock. The Sigma site is probably a list of current production lenses, and like has been said, some of those pictures are of Nikon versions. If you want the latest spec ones, get the model specs from Sigma's site and ensure that the dealer matches these.
