Anyone else here is happy that the F6 is not digital/film hybrid?

Well I used the evil dictionary provided by Bill Gates and it

said, "The displacement of sexual arousal or gratification

to a fetish." Now it appears you think I drive around with

an ivory icons of my 105/2.5 on the dash board of my car.

Actually I wear seat belts.
Many of the AI and AIS Nikkors are quite competitive in optical

quality with AF Nikkors, some better. There are different ways to

judge. Until AF cameras can read my mind and focus precisely

where I want there will be a place for manual focus. A friend

received as Canon Elan Ile as a part of the tuition for repair

training on that camera. He said the "e" feature drove him crazy.

The use of AI an AIS Nikkors is still very valid. Some AF lenses

have a really nasty AF feel and very short throws on the focus

ring so sometimes it may be desirable to own both an AF and an MF

lens in the same focal length. Anyway Ive got more AI and

AIS lenses than fingers and toes and only four AF lenses so I

have little choice as I dont believe in fire sales.

What I want is AF lenses that are as good at MF and they are at

AF but for the most part they just arent made. Therefor

both AF and MF performance in an modern SLR is very important to

me.
Although Im very disappointed, not surprised, but

disappointed to see the era of interchangeable finder SLR end I

had to comment on some of the many good points of the F6 (A.K.A.

F200). I still hold out some hope that Nikon will build a True F-Series DSLR but now thats about as small as the macro

subjects I like to use the 6x high magnification finders with.

It is good to see Nikon recognize the many users who mix and

match auto focus and manual focus Nikkors.
Postscript: Chiefly Nikon should get off its ass and

provide kits to convert AI and AIS lenses to P types. By now Im

sure the "Chip" could be included with the contacts so

no flex is needed, just a simple replacement bayonet.

Considering that it would likely be a kludge or ghastly expensive

yes. Im not sure if the miniaturization of pairs is such

that it can be done well as yet. Most of the DSLR features would

need to be in a replacement back. Some of the electronics or

space for replaceable memory might fit in the film cassette

chamber.

It makes more sense to build dedicated DSLR and I would not want

to see a miniature Hasselblad style 35mm SLR. If my memory serves

me well Rollei made one. I dont recall being sufficiently

motivated to even touch one.

By sharing many parts with the D2H and D2X the F6 is probably

going to make money in a small niche even in the US. DSLR still

are not competitive with negative films IMXO. The dynamic range

is sort like slide film and sometimes the long dynamic range of

color negative is very useful. I imagine future development will

change this.
Best,
