ZX-5n mirror locked up

Good batteries, no corrosion... it looks like a mechanical problem.

The mirror moves up and down 1/4" at the top of it's range every time

I change something (press the shutter, change the shutter speed, turn

it off or on...)

 

Anyone seen this? I'm thinking a trip to the shop is due...

I do believe I'd send it for repairs...Jim...I'm glad I happen to get the extra warranty with mine!

Thanks for your well wishes... the camera is FAR from being under warrantee... I got it off eBay 3 years ago!

 

And this just after spending a whack of cash repairing my Mamiya.

 

...maybe I'll stay in bed tomorrow.

Jim, seems like trouble just comes in bunches. Does your batteries test real good,tried a new set? I've had mine to quit working all together on me,odd thing was after I took the batteries out and checked them, the camera was ok as soon as I put them back in! I think it may have something to do with the humidity and static electricity, who knows...Jim

Send it in to a Pentax repair shop and they'll install a new mirror motor. Same thing happened to my 1998 MZ-5 (earlier machine, different logo) - move, grind, whirr, stop. When I took mine in the receptionist took one look and said, "Yeah, mirror motor." It was painless.
