Yellowstone in February

I have a section on my website of photos taken in early March of Yellowstone. February will be even colder. The only way to get around, besides snowmobile and snowcat, is by cross-country skiing. Make sure you're in good enough shape to do so with your equipment (including tripod because there's not much light). Your hands will freeze. I experienced great pain. But it's worth it - Yellowstone in winter is spectacular. Enjoy.

If you go to Gardiner MT and rent a car you can drive between Mammoth Hot Springs and Cooke City and have wonderful winter animal photography. The scenics aren't too bad either. I have made the trip twice now and the Lamar Valley has been wonderful at that time of the year. Coyotes, bison, elk an eagle or two and in the far far distance - wolves!
