michael_briggs2
Most of the Apo-Nikkors were rated by Nikon to cover 46 degrees, which would be 260 mm diameter for a 305 mm lens used at infinity. Of course, you might find the coverage acceptable to you to be different. The 46 degree figure is from a brochure that I have for the later Apo-Nikkors, which were symmetrical dialyte designs similar to the Apo-Artar and Apo-Ronar.

A few previous threads: APO-Nikkor 360mm at http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=0038El, Coverage of a Nikkor 360mm f9 Barrel Lens at http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=003FOR, Nikon APO lens, M lens, Artars at http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=003cSr Nikkor Q, Apo & M lenses at http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=004fWX and Older ApoNikkor & newer Nikkor M... differences? at http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=004O81.
jim_galli4
Hi Jason. Both of the GRII lenses are 82 degree angles so figure 266mm circle on the 150 and 376 on the 210. And yes I have verified that with images shot on 11X14" film. The resolution possible with any of the GRII lenses is stellar. But they do not go into a shutter easily (or at all sensibly). You would have to use with a lens cap or a Packard.
jason_chiu
Thanks Michael and Jim for the info. Jim, I think the 300mm goes into Copal 3S. What would the 150mm and 210mm fit into? Do they even have standard size thread for shutters? Thanks. Jason.
gary_deal
That's odd, the couple of shots I took on 8x10 with my 150 just barely met the corners of the film, and flipping the back gave me slightly underexposed corners on one end indicating imperfect centering. It's possible that I wasn't focused quite at infinity, more like about fifteen feet. 376 sounds nice for the 210, I'll add that to my little coverage list. (Thanks Jim! Do you have a more extensive list?) With a 305 Nikkor, I don't recall if I found the edge of the circle with full rise on my old Eastman 8x10, but I know I wasn't disappointed. I pulled the rear element from the 300 and to my surprise it screwed into the back of a Copal 3 (the -S was too small to accept it), but I didn't feel like going to the trouble to get the front end out (yet). If that works I'd be happy. I don't know that the others fit directly into anything, but I'm not up for the work to check. Ok, so I'm lazy. Jason, that's some nice glass, if you're shooting 4x5 you may never see the edges of the circles and they're still cool for 8x10.
jason_chiu
Gary, thank you for your info. I planned to use the 210mm and the 305mm for 8X10, and hoping the 150mm would also cover. Looks like the 150mm is more appropriate for 4X5. Jason.
