jud cuttino
Since the Sony PD-150 records progressive scan at only 15 fps, is there another camcorder in this price range which delivers at least 30 fps in progressive scan mode?
beerbrain_ronny_perry
The Canon XL 1 and also the less expensive , but highly regarded Canon GL 1 have Frame Movie Mode,, 30 full frames a second. http://www.canondv.com/gl1/f_shooting_modes.html http://www.dvinfo.net/canon/articles/article1.htm
arseniy_v
Unfortunately the first affordable 3CCD cam to have TRUE (30/25 frames per second (fps)) PS mode is the new Panasonic AG-DVX100: http://www.panasonic.co.jp/bsd/sales_o/dvworld/html/ag-dvx100.html and 1CCD cams like the Optura, Optura PI, Elura, GR-DV2000/JY-VS200E, DVL-9800, etc. Neither the Gl1 nor the Xl1 have true PS (as they claim), its more of a "frame look mode", which also worsens low light performance (which true PS wouldn't do). That's why there is a 1ccd camcorder (JY-VS200E) in JVC's professional line-up: http://202.76.180.185/jvcpro-australia/products_group.asp?
richard_hasty
What are the canon xl1 and gl1 doing if they are not doing true progressive scan video?
arseniy_v
*What are the canon xl1 and gl1 doing if they are not doing true progressive scan video? Pixel shift. Digital interpolation similar to what you get when using a deinterlacing tool in photoshop. It does a decent job, but unlike true PS there is a loss in resolution (about 25%) as well as low light performance. Here is a couple of references: http://www.bealecorner.net/gl1/ http://www.gearpreview.com/film/minidv.html
arseniy_v
This is a very good link on the subject: ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/Drivers/PBTS/papers/Progressive-WP.pdf
