martin_altmann
I'm going to New Haven (Conn.) on a buiseness trip in October and Iwonder if there are good and reliable stores selling photographic(NIKON) and other optical equipment (such as binocs) in this town. Ifanybody can give me hints, I would be glad. Good and reliable meaningfair priced and of good reputation, no rip-off cheapies. Thanks a lot! damon_kirschbaum
Camera Bar is in Hartford--thirty minutes north of New Haven. Tell them that I sent you.
ShunCheung
If you are in Connecticut, you might as well pay a visit to New York City, where there are B&H, Adorama, etc. If you indeed go there in person, please check their business hours in advance. E.g., they are not open on Saturdays.
michael_yuen
Tamarkin is in Woodbridge, CT. They are about 3 miles northwest of New Haven. They are Leica specialist, but also carry Nikon. Their main store is in NY City. You should call them ahead to find out their hours.
bill_marshall1
Tamarkin in Woodbridge is essentially by appointment only. Mr. Tamarkin is helpful, friendly, & knowledgable. It is certainly worth the visit. Classic Connection, run by former Tamarkin manager Sam Shoshan, is also available by appointment in Woodbridge. Sam is a gentleman & very helpful. Both of the above have a good inventory of used equipment. If you make arrangements in advance Tamarkin's New York store will ship equipment to the Connecticut shop for your inspection. Camera Wholesalers in Stamford, about 45 minutes west of New Haven, has a very comprehensive inventory from new/used cameras & lenses to bags & accessories. Prices are good but they have a no return policy - exchange or store credit only. The camera district in manhattan i a 2 1/2 train ride from New Haven - worth the trip if you have the time but a full day if you do it.
Rick Waller
Ditto the B&H recommendation. Go to NYC and quit fooling around. Train from New Haven directly to Grand Central and then walk to B&H.
bill_marshall1
I should add that Milford Photo is another comprehensive camera shop in the area, staffed by nice people in a spacious store. About 20 minutes west of New Haven in Milfor, CT.
martin_altmann
Thanks to you all for these great tips. I'll check out most if I can, Cheers, Martin PS: Here in Chile, photographic equipment is so much more expensive (D70+lens $2200,-)
vic_.
Martin, Before you take your trip, research the B&H website www.bhphoto.com Their prices are among the best. Also, Rich Pinto at www.photovillage.com Beware that B&H is closed on Saturdays and on Jewish Religious Holidays (dates listed on their website). B&H also ships overseas.
