rayn
Need to know for an EOS user who is thinking about buying the DxO Pro software. I e-mailed DxO and they gave me a canned answer so I'll try asking here. This will be for a Canon 10D with 24/1.4L, 85/1.4, and 200/2.8L lenses. So, will this body with those lenses give subject distance in the EXIF info? They are all "ring USM" lenses. Thanks!
steve_dunn2
AFAIK, the 10D reports distance info for lenses which themselves report it. Most ring USM lenses do, and most lenses with other motors don't, but there are exceptions to both halves of that. The latest Canon lens brochure I have says that the 24/1.4L returns distance information. The 200/2.8L USM II (the current model) does; since the original one has been discontinued for many years, I can't say for sure - but I'd lean towards suspecting that it does. Canon has never made an 85/1.4 EF lens; the 85/1.8 returns distance information, while the 85/1.2L does not.
rayn
Thanks Steve. Sorry, I meant 85/1.8.
andrew_certain
In the files I've shot with my 10D and 70-200 2.8 IS, the "Subject Distance" field in EXIF is empty. Does anybody have actual 10D files where it is filled in? Andrew
