luisarguelles
Des anyone has some experience with the compact camera Leica Mini(about 1993 model with fixed 35mm f/3.5 Elmar lens). I realize it's abasic plastic camera, but they are so cheap at e--ay actually that I'mgoing to play with one.
terry_rory
No thought required on this one. Get a couple of them. Cheap fun with what is reputed to be an excellent camera.
terry_rory
15 minutes left. luisarguelles
Thanks very much Trevor, but I prefer to locate it in Germany in order to avoid customs to Spain. By the way, do you know if it's comparable to the Yashica T4?
furcafe
I have 1, but can't compare w/it T4. In my opinion, the lens is good for a point & shoot.

edward_deangelis
I have had both since the early 90's, and rate both highly. Still have both of them. Have run many rolls of film with each. Buy one or two of each.Ed
luisarguelles
Chris, very nice, although I prefer your "Place des Vosgues" picture :). I think the image renders a bit the atmosphere of my old uncoated M39 Elmar 5cm f/3.5. I'm going to get one. Any advice shooting with the Mini? taffer
"I prefer to locate it in Germany in order to avoid customs to Spain" Luis, I've ordered around a dozen things from the US and Canada and never had to pay anything for customs here in Barcelona. For purchases below $100 and being a person to person deal and on used equipment, I wouldn't worry too much. Alas, don't know if the opposite has happened to you though. max_fun
Whao! A plastic Leica? Is it possible? Is it just a rebadged Minolta by any chance? Is the lens even designed by Leica?
luisarguelles
Oscar, I have a lot of experience buying in E-ay from the States to Spain, but since spring, and probably due to the relationship Euro/Dollar, the government probably thought we were buying too much equipment, so they decided to make a tighter control on imported things. In fact, they charge about a 20% over the price on the final bid. Germany has also good prices, no customs by law and my German is not bad at all :)
luisarguelles
Max, the camera was manufactured in Japan, The lens has four elements in three groups. At least, it has the same grouping than the classic Elmar. Anyway, for a price between 40-60 Euros/Dollars, who cares?. I'm going to try the thing. First night I shall put the Mini close to my M2 in order to let her learn the tricks :)
joseph_barbano
Take some time getting use to the auto focusing. There aren't many steps or focus zones as was the case with most/all P&S in that time frame. So tack-sharp focusing takes some practice. BTW, I bought my Mini new in about 1989. I still use it. tom_brabant
Two of my very favorite pictures hanging in my family room (16x20 Cibrabrome--Illfacome) were taken with this mini, rather than my big array of R lenses. My wife had even said, "What adavantage is there is your taking your R-7 and all those other lenses along.
francis a
I have a T4 and a Leica mini3. the T4 is a bit sharper and slightly more contrast, but the Leica has gorgeous colors, I like it better. Also the delay between pressing the shutter and the picture taken is much worse on the T4.
kai_teufel
buy a leica mini 3. its improved to mini. if yashica, and weight and size isnt too important, buy the t3. in germany about 25 euros, f is 2.8 (really faster) and it has the georgios viewfinder, which has possibility to look in from above . (like a hasselblad lol) this is a great gimmick, easy to take pics from frog perspektive, taking pics with the cam far over the head.... kai
taffer
"and my German is not bad at all :)" That's a very good point indeed ! Will have to be more careful with my next purchases though :)
joel_matherson
I had both the Mini one and two and it neither ever gave as high quality results as any of the good interchangable lens cameras. I then tried the Yashich T5 and never looked back. The T4/5's will give you much better results the the Mini one and twos. I bought new and wasted my money on the Leicas, at least you have the option to buy cheap secondhand so you wont loose out.

furcafe
Beantown!? ;-) It's Paris, France (Place Du Tertre)--that's Sacre Coeur in the background. --------------------- "Wondering where Christopher Chen's photo was taken??Boston"
gary_pinkerton1
I have a Mini II which is a few years old, carry it in my bag all the time for quick print shots. I used a Mini III for a project at work where it was carried around slung from a backpack frame thru the woods off and on for 2 years. it got knocked around and dropped a time or two. I don't know how long they're supposed to last, but I've been impressed, great with Kodachrome 200. Aren't they made in co-op with Matsushista? [i know it's not spelled right, but Photo.net didn't like it's correct spelling]
nzdavid
Mini 3 is a great camera with a cracker lens, and I don't doubt the Mini 2 is good too. Very simple to use with absolutely no superfluous functions. An object lesson in minimalist design. Just a shame these film P/Ss will probably be phased out in favour of digital. Mini 3 works well with slides too.<div></div>
pensacolaphoto
I like my Leica Mini 3 with the 3.2 lens. It is rather sharp and gives nice results. I may have paid $65 for it used.
