david_craig1
Just got a replacment (new) baseplate for my black Leica MP but I am concerned that it may be a bad fit. Having fitted one end of the baseplate carefully over the 'stud' on the camera body, the other end 'springs' open and can only be retained by pushing firmly and latching it. The original baseplate didn't behave in this way! Anyone else had this problem or am I just expecting too much in the way of precision engineering? jeff_lu
Don't see how you could be expecting too much if the original never behaved like that and none of my baseplates ever have. I would return or exchange it, if possible.
__jon__
I have to push a bit on my M6 classic baseplate to get it to seat. Before DAG worked on it, I had to pull it to get it off. I like it with some spring to it. Does it cause any other operational problems? Have you run any film through the camera with the new base? ben z
David, my MP baseplate fits exquisitely, like it sounds like your first one did. I would not accept the way this new one is fitting, and demand a replacement that fits properly. For what these cameras cost and for all of Leica's claims of precision and perfection, they should be held accountable. On a $400 Bessa I'd call it being anal, but on a $2700 MP I'd call it being discerning.
billsr
It sounds like the hole is placed too low on the baseplate. Having to force the plate closed may cause the plate to flex and leak light, I'm guessing. Best of luck, Bill
jorge
I have a black MP too and it doesn't behave like that. As a matter of fact, neither of my other Leicas baseplates do. Sounds defective.
