david_henderson
Hello. I'll be spending the first couple of days next week as a tourist in San Francisco before heading up to northern California and Oregon for some coastal photography. I'd like to take a look at the Golden Gate Bridge from Baker Beach, but despite my several guidebooks and Delorme atlas, I can't quite see how I can access Baker Beach towards the north end - near the bridge. Can anyone give me some directions please?
rich815
You have to walk to the base of the bridge from farther west. That's the Baker's Beach entrance and parking lot. Which can be accessed along Lincoln Blvd. between Kobbe Ave. and Pershing Drive. Once you find the entrance and parking lot get out and walk along the beach towards the bridge. Spearhead
If you want a different view than most visitors get, go to Kirby Cover on the north side of the Bridge. It involves some walking, but almost no tourists go to the cove. There's some forts there, a beach, and the view of the Bridge. ky2
<p align="center"><img src="http://d6d2h4gfvy8t8.cloudfront.net/1387238-md.jpg"</p><p>But if you're looking for this point of view, then drive to the south (very packed) vista point. You probably won't find a parking spot there-- however, there's a small bypass UNDER the highway (look for the queue to the restrooms, it's right there). Follow that pass and park on the other side, there's normally plenty of space there. NOW, walk to the west point of the parking lot; there's a trail that starts right there, taking you all the way down-- there are stairs, and about 10 minutes down. This is much closer than driving to Baker Beach.</p>
