louis_webb
I use a bronica etrsi, with both w/l viewfinder and ae11 prism, largest lens pe150+2times teleconvertor. My old Slik master pro2 is just too heavy to carry on the tripod carry system.I have an old but fab large Benbo ball-head which i intend to keep.I would like a tripod that extends to 160cm without centre collumn use.Louis. jackflesher
How about a Gitzo carbon-fiber #1248? They're pricey, but super tripods. After I bought mine, I also bought a bigger Gitzo CF for LF use, and sold all of my other tripods. My only gripe are the twist-type leg locks. But they do hold... oliver_a._kepka
Hi Louis, I´m very content with my Gitzo G 1325 Mountaineer carbon fibre tripod without centre collumn and three sections. It extends to 149 cm (+ ballhead + quick-release platform + camera = 170 cm), is light (2 kg), very stable and can carry max. 12 kg. I use it with my Pentax 645N, Linhof Profi II, Novoflex MiniConnect and LowePro Mini Trekker. Best wishes Oliver A. Kepka Bonn, Germany
rob_brown1
If you are canadian then this is instantly helpful, if not then you can still get it at a low price through mail... The "Mountain Equiptment Co-op" is an outdoor equiptment store that sells great gear with all the benifits of an easy warrenty and such of a co-op at really low prices. I found exactly what you want for almost the exact set-up(Sorry, another hassy user) for about $45 CND. They have have a website www.mec.ca. Hope that helps. louis_webb
Looks like the Gitzo 1228(?-not a 1248?)is the way to go for me.Looking at the specs,it will strap to my minitrekker and just about extend to eye-level without use of the centre column(I may have to stoop a little!)Anybody seen this tripod for less than £305(approx 450usd)including postage?Louis. louis_webb
I got a `1228 from www.professionalcameras.co.uk for £305(free courier in GB-mainland)-cheaper than Robert White. The bloke who runs it seems to be a keen mountain photographer and the service was quick. The tripod seems ideal for my needs, though time out in the field will be the true test! louis_webb
If anybody is looking at this link wondering whether the 1228 is for them, then look no further-if you can cope with the leg locks(3 on each leg, occasionally difficult to twist),then the combination of light weight, size and stability is superb.Like my camera,it feels like it will last forever.
