jason_chiu
Hi, anyone knows the coverage of 12" Artar? Will it cover 8x10? Thanks. Jason.
eric_leppanen
According to John Sparks the 12" Artar will barely cover 8x10 at infinity. http://www.largeformatphotography.info/classic-experts.html
michael_briggs2
The lens design of the Artar, the dialyte with two positive elements and two negative elements in a symmetrical configuration, is generally specified by lens manufacturers as covering 46 to 48 degrees. Sometimes very long focal lengths are specified to have less angular coverage. Taking the higher value, 48 degrees, the diameter of the image circle when the lens is focused at infinity is 0.89 times the focal length. (The equation is d = 2 f tan 48/2.) For a 12 inch lens, the diameter of coverage is 10.7 inches or 271 mm, which is less then the diagonal of 8x10 film. Sometimes photographers use a lens for coverage beyond what a manufacturer specifies. For example, for contact prints less resolution is needed than if enlargements are being done. So the 12 inch Artar might acceptably cover 8x10 for some uses, but a different lens would probably be a better choice.
c_p_goerz
I REGULARLY use a 10 3/4" red dot with movement on my 8x10, has more circle than a 250mm F6.7 Fujinon. A 12" Artar will easily cover 8x10.Try it and you'll see. CP Goerz
