owen w.
Gee! Can't believe it isn't already posted, but today's NYTimes hasan article on the subway photography ban. This subject has beendiscussed at great length in this forum. It's a bit surprising ittook so long to show up in the newspapers. The site is:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/07/nyregion/07subway.html?8hpib=&pagewanted=all&position=
Owen

olivier_reichenbach
Banning photography in the subway is a paranoid delusion and a mad power trip. Not entirely surprising, these days. Meanwhile, the US Adminisration has apparently granted the national inquiry on 9/11 (launched one year after the tragedy) less than one tenth of the budget granted to... the Kenneth Starr investigation on Clinton. derek_stanton2
Imagine that - fabric/cushioned seating in a subway car. Wouldn't last a minute in New York.

steve_levine
Why would a terrorist need photos of the subways(what about sketching, is it illegal)? Why would a terrorist need to openly take these photos , since small concealable cameras are available? The whole idea of a "Photo ban" is idiotic, but then again, so are the people leading this country.
dr._karl_hoppe
More mindless stupidity from bureaucrats with way too much time on their hands. Terrorists up to no good can get all the pictures they want with a camera-cell phone. As if "Leica Larry" with his three camera bodies, shoulder-bag full of lenses and assorted paraphenalia, and goofy looking photo vest, poses a risk to anyone. OCULUS New York
I heard the best one at our Photo Society meeting the other night. A sign outside a county or some agricultural fair said: "Warning No Digital Cameras over 5 megapixels permitted." Of course, we asked him if he got a picture of the sign, and of course, he had not. I would want to meet the Sheriff who ordered it.....and take a film picture of him. Cheers, Ray Hull
