cl_ho2
I have gone through a website which states that the new Nikon AFS17-55/2.8 DX lens will work on traditional film body from the focallength 35mm onward (Just like the AFS 12-24/4 DX which works on a filmcamera from 18mm onward). Have anyone tried the lens on a Nikon filmSLR ? What is the result ?
xmms
if u take a F5 and mount this lens,u may see the slight dark angle show in ur viewfinder......
jim_gifford
<<What is the result ?>> A 33-55 f/2.8 zoom that costs $1,300. No one in his or her right mind would buy this DX lens just to use it on film bodies. But if you buy it for use on digital SLR bodies, and you choose to use it also on film bodies, well, why the heck not? And you don't have to restrict yourself to the 33-55 range. You can decide the vignetting at 17-33mm is just part of your creative expression. be well,
sander_vesik
At least some Nikon docs claim that the DX lens (just like IX) cannot be used on film bodies. Has anybody actually tried these on a film body and got normal metering and focus results?
joseph_wisniewski
Sander, The DX lenses will physically fit on film bodies, without damaging anything. Most Nikon digitals (except D70 and D2h) are 100% film body in all the components that affect the lens (lens mount, aperture lever, mirror, EE servo switch, etc). I've shot the Nikon 12-24 on 35mm film before, it's fine, doesn't harm the camera at all. Vignets wider than 16mm, but using it at 12 then trimming the prints round is a kick.
