shiver_me_timbrrrre
Kare, you need a very hard light source. I don't know what kind of flash you have but if it has a glass dome, try this: 1) replace the frosted glass dome with one of clear glass; 2) buy a roll of black Cinefoil from the nearest theatrical or movie supply house (try www.studiodepot.com if you need to mail order). Now make a black i.e. non-reflective cone and place it around the glass dome of the flash. You'll need to experiment to find a cone size which works best for your needs. It is important to try to surround the glass dome as completely as possible in order to cut out any stray light from reflecting off any room surfaces or the ceiling. You're trying to make as small as light source as possible. This will give you the hard shadows that you're looking for.

david_prouty
I won't post a photo, but do a web search for George Hurrell. Any of his photographs will show you just what is being referred to. You probaby know these as the old Hollywood star portraits.
