nina_sagan
I have some rolls of AGFA ULTRA with me and I am wondering where I should take them in London (I live in central near Baker Street). I usually use Jessop's, Boots, and Snappy Snaps (but FYI their branches on Baker Street and Marylebone High Street are not good), and I do not know what lab machines they are using. And for AGFA films, I have heard it is better to use AGFA machine and paper. Does anybody know if Jessop's or Snappy Snaps have AGFA machine? Or is there any AGFA labs in central? I have seen some newsagents with AGFA sign in front but not sure if they do proper job... Any advices much appreciated and I will post my feedback/experience after I get my films processed. ericd
This is C-41 process I had good reswults on a Fuji Frontier.
scott_eaton
Actually......the type of lab has little to do with quality. I also find that Agfa films like Ultra perform the best when printed on Kodak papers vs Agfa's or Fujis. Popular Agfa papers like Prestige have very poor color saturation, which is contradictary to using Ultra 100/50. A good Kodak lab would be my first choice. nina_sagan
Thank you so much for your comments. So... I can take them either Fuji or Kodak lab? I thought "ultra" colours come out only on Agfa paper. I have checked my prints from Jessops which said Kodak on back. Boots prints are also Kodak. (Both not Royal) Will try Jessops, perhaps. aquilanebula
Actually most Boots stores print on Fuji Crystal Archive paper using Frontier machines and give good results with virtually every type of film I have tried. (You must have come across a rare branch that hasn't upgraded.) I suggest that you either try one of the professional labs in central London (there have been some recent threads on this subject) or use one of your regular outlets where you know the customer service is good. Boots in particular are usually ready to reprint photos that are in any way substandard. However, avoid the branch in Victoria Station which has been printing photos with white streaks for the last 9 months.
nina_sagan
>> (You must have come across a rare branch that hasn't upgraded.) Really? It's on Baker Street (but my prints are more than 6 months old, so perhaps that's why). Unfortunatelly professional labs are a bit too expensive for me, especially if I ask not 'prosess only' but 'process and prints'. It is quite difficult to encounter good labs (ie handle negatives with care -- this is a basic but it seems that many labs don't care about customers' negatives). It is truly 'try and error' kind of thing.
nina_sagan
At the end of the day, I brought it to Boots, still with Kodak paper, and the result was quite nice. Especially when compared to Jessop's (I just have got a set of prints from Jessop's as well and they were not clean -- dusts printed here and there!), Boots do good job, I think. ronald_laird
I Have used Snappy Snaps in Baker Street, for a few years now an I find them to be one of the best labs in London for C41, B & W and E6 processing and printing. They are always happy to print your photos just the way you want them. Printing on a Noritsu 3202 and using Kodak Royal Gold Plus paper in both Matt or Glossy and have a wonderfully fast Digital service. Give them a try
bill_tuthill
I agree Kodak lab and paper is preferable over Fuji Frontier and Crystal Archive for Agfa Ultra, but Ultra also looks excellent on Prestige paper from a D-Lab, if you can still find one. If they can obtain spare parts, many D-Labs will probably switch to Fuji paper, a combination I've never tried.
