mike_smith2
I have recently acquired a secondhand 1D, the camera came with the colour temp setting at 5800K (which matches the handbook setting), but I thought that daylight setting was 6500K?- or is that just the standard setting for PC monitors to achieve sunlight colour balance. Could some lease confirm the normal colour temp. setting for outdoor photography use..... Many thanks Mike Smith
david_kieltyka1
5500K to 5800K will give you a good "daylight" color balance with your 1D. Setting the color temp to 6500K in sunny conditions will give results on the warm side. -Dave-
digitmstr
The 'typical' setting is 5200K - early morning and sunsets are different of course, as are shaded areas. You can find many charts online by doing a colort temp search.
digitmstr
in reality though, lots depends on where you live and relative atmospheric conditions, to get precise. Daylight film is rated at 5500K and tungsten at 3200K. You have some play because of the above variants as well as personal taste. Cool thing is that with digital it doesn't cost money to experiment. In addition, if you shoot raw you can correct and visually experience the different settings as you change them. That can be a good learning tool as well. Enjoy your new camera!
