ray .
A bit off topic, but I'm wondering what browser people use for Mac OS 9.2. I have IE 5.1, which works, but is slower than the outdated Netscape 4.7.... Or would it be worthwhile to go to Mac 10 so as to accomodate something else? ._._z
If you don't visit sites w/ CSS, look at iCab: www.icab.de It's got the best ad-blocking I've seen on any browser. Works in Os and OS X. If you want a wicked-fast, text-only browser, look at WannaBe: www.mindstory.com It doesn't handle cookies, though. Aside from those, I'd stick with Netscape. Better, upgrade to OS X if your system isn't too old. Better still, ask on a Mac-oriented site. Brad_
Ray, with respect to going to OS X, how fast is your Mac? If your Mac is older, say less than 900 MHz, I'd stay with 9.2. I've been running OS X for about two years on three machines - it hasn't crashed once. Where with 9.2 it seemed like a daily occurance... I use Safari (comes with OS X) and like it tons better than IE. Built-in popup window blocking, and the tabs feature lets you open a bunch of sites at once - then just click the tabs to cycle through them. For example, with one click I can open 6 different news sites. www.citysnaps.net
._._z
Safari is a dream. And Mike Solomon's PithHelmet grafts itself onto Safari and gets rid of virtually all ads -- very nice. charles_hohenstein
Upgrading to OS X is a good idea in any case. You can always run your older programs in classic mode. Safari under OS X has worked better for me than any other browser I have tried. I tried to support Netscape Navigator as an alternative to the evil Microsoft product for several years, but Safari makes Netscape look clumsy. Incidentally, I am running Mac OS 10.2.8 on a 350 MHz slot-loading iMac. Someone implied above that one has to have a faster machine to upgrade to OS X, but I have not found that to be true. mark_h2
For OS 9, check our WaMCom. It's basically an older version Mozilla with patches from the newer, OS X only, versions. I find it faster than either IE 5.1 or NS 4.7. For more information and to download it, head over to http://www.wamcom.org/ Mark
gary_a._hill
Opera. I switched to Opera because upgrading Netscape would require a change to OS X, but I still keep the last version of Netscape which runs on 9.2 as an alternative.
