paramate_horkaew
Thank you for all your comments on my recent Q re: SMC 135/35-M vs Tamron 70-300 LD :-) .. I'm still in the middle of 3nd roll with this SMC- M lens - haven't processed any yet, but we'll see. Anyway, I got a digital Panasonic DMC-LC33 this X-mas and a couple of AA Ni-MH batteries. I wonder whether my "Battery Pack Fg" can share these batteries too? The Pentax manual specifically says 'NO' to this question. But I don't see any reason why, except the difference of 1.2v and 1.5v. I dared try it any way with my MZ AF and it worked absolutely fine with Ni-MH batteries. Have you guys ever tried this. My concern is that would this cause the damage to the camera in the long run? Or is it just one of those "If-you-use-XXX-camera-please-use-XXX-battery-too-so-we-can-sell- you-both" $$$ - ka-ching !!!
wim_van_velzen
Hi Paramate,
I had this question too, but was strongly adviced by Pentaxnot to use rechargeable batteries. It has to do with the consistency of the charge.
Rechargeable batteries are not that consistent (they vary in the levels of charge), compared to non rechargeable AA batteries.
As Pentax has no interest in the AA battery industry, I suppose they are right on this. And AA batteries can be had almost everywhere.
For the environment it is bad though.
Wim
Sandeha Lynch
Well for one thing there is actually quite a difference between 1.2v and 1.5v. Temperature is one aspect, but the problem is that a different charge, or type of battery, may work or seem to work, but you can't gauge how soon the damage might begin. I would not even be tempted. 14mm 2.8l
Don't use rechargeable AA's in the FG pack. I put 4 AA's in the wife's pentax a couple years ago. Several vacations , events, happenings, and even a camera body upgrade to ZX-L and we're still on the first set of 4 AA's in FG pack. These batteries are so cheap, why take a chance doing what Pentax says not to? Lindy
paramate_horkaew
Well, thanks a lot guys. That pretty much clears thing up. I won't use the rechargable AA on my battery grip again ;-) ... promise, really.
Jochen_S
What's about Rayovac rechargeable Alkalines? - They claim to be 1.5V...
clemens_bergmann
Hello everybody, I just got a used battery pack FG for my MZ-6. And of course I was immediately puzzled by the warning concerning the batteries... A short search with Google brought me first to this forum and then to the german Pentax homepage. ... >Verwendbare Batterien: 4x AA-Batterien (Alkaline, Ni-Mh) Short version in english: Use of NiMH accumulators is possible! I would have tried it anyway, as I don't believe using rechargeable cells can do any harm, however, it is reassuring to have this official statement. jim kerr
I have a ZX-30 and ZX-5n,both with the AA battery packs.Since the Fg manual says to use "four 1.5V alkaline batteries" and "any other type of batteries such as Ni-Cd and manganese batteries cannot be used".So I had a little idea, called Pentax and ask if they thought using rechargable alkalines would work since they were 1.5V also, they said it should be alright. So that's what I've using for past couple years,no problems so far....Keep on clicking...Jim
