paul_graham4
hi all- do you know of anyone who specializes in refurbishing flashguns / or even uprating them? I have one that is a favourite, (Olympus T32) but a little old I want to bring it back to as new spec, or... better- e.g. up-rate the capacitor? I'd love a 1/2 stop extra power! any #'s for good repair guys or tinkeres?I'm in NYC. Paul

conurus
Uprating the capacitor may cause a shift in color temperature and lengthen the recycle time. But I think the real challenge is finding parts. It is very difficult to find photo capacitors. Other capacitors either don't withstand the high voltage (300V) required or don't have the correct discharge characteristics. In my view, you may try taking apart a disposable camera (lots of web sites would tell you how to do it) and add that capacitor in parallel to the one that is already there. Probably not 1/2 extra power (which is almost 0.6 stops) but maybe 0.2 stops more... but at least the original design won't go way out of whack with such an addition.
