anis
Hello P.Net members, I am looking to buy a used TC for D70 & Nikon 300mm AFS F4. KEH lists TC-14E and TC-14E II models. 1. Is there any optical difference between the two? They're both 5 elements in 5 groups, same weight, 10 contact pins, etc. etc.. 2. What model should I be getting for my combo if they happen to be compatible with my setup? Any one experience with the TC20 performance? is there a big drop in sharpness with this combo and does AF performance drop significantly compared to the 1.4X? Thanks in advance Anis
dan_brown14
I'm 90% sure the only difference is the barrel finish to match the newer Nikkors they mount on. The 2x will give you problems with AF performance and viewfinder brightness with an F4 lens, but, in good light you'll have and EFL of 900mm! Better have a good tripod :-)
Michael R Freeman
The only difference is cosmetics. Functionally and optically they are completely identical.
cooper8168
Are you guys sure. I could be wrong, but I thought only the series II could be used with AF-S lenses. Or is it the "E" that designates use with AF-S lenses?
cooper8168
Sorry - that was meant to be a question... trying again: Are you guys sure?
Michael R Freeman
Yes. Both the 14E and 14EII can be used with AF-S/AF-I lenses. They are functionally IDENTICAL.
Michael R Freeman
See: http://nikonimaging.com/global/products/lens/af/teleconverters/af-i_tc-14e/index.htm and: http://nikonimaging.com/global/products/lens/af/teleconverters/af-s_tc-14e_2/index.htm
ilkka_nissila
The AF-I teleconverters (TC-14E etc.) were introduced for use with AF-I lenses which had internal non-ultrasonic motors. However, the control interface is the same for AF-S lenses. The II models are functionally identical to the original models, either can be used with AF-S and AF-I telephotos.
