macgregor_anderson
I just purchased used a Nikon 90mm SW F8 lens mounted on a Copal 0 shutter. The slider that selects the aperature is much looser than on either of my other lenses with the same shutter. It does not have play front to back, and appears to open and close the aperature smoothly. However, just the slightest pressure moves it, which I don't anticipate being a big problem if it stays as it is. Just curious if this is the sign of problems to come. The lens was rated 9+ by a major used camera store that has a good reputation. Should I return the lens, ask for a discount, or not worry about it? Sorry, I'm very new to large format and don't know what to expect. Thanks, Mac
deniz_merdan
Maybe you could bend the aperture dial just enough that it will create a little drag and be stiffer? Or maybe once you mount it on a board(if you haven't yet) it will cause some drag and be stiffer. good luck..
capocheny
Mac, Don't worry about it unless it starts to slide on its own volition... I have a Copal 3 shutter that behaves the same way and it has never given me a problem. Alternatively, you can take it to a repair depot and have it fixed for more dollars than the problem is worth! macgregor_anderson
Thanks for the comments. I'm happy to use it as is, and it isn't worth the hassle of trying to get a few bucks back or returning it. I just wanted to be sure this wasn't stage 1 of a shutter going bad or some such thing.
