jim_simmons
The sound the camera makes has two effects - the sound to the photographer and the sound to others in the vicinity. The M is definiely quieter, but it is also a more aesthetically pleasing sound, and to me that is a valid reason for liking one picture-taking machine over another. The R2 is a decent body, but it does have a rather pedestrian-sounding mechanism. If you're looking for a second body for your Leitz glass, and you want both low cost and a quiet, nice-sounding shutter, try the Leica CL. High quality box, sweet-sounding accurate shutter, but with a delicate meter. Have you heard the shutter in an M7? Wow.
jay_.
The CL shutter is the quietest of all...when it seizes up.
jim_simmons
Hmmm... I know the CL meter is a dog design, but I've not heard of consistent shutter problems. After 30 years and hundreds and hundreds of rolls and maybe one CLA, my shutter is going strong and is accurate at all speeds. Am I lucky, or is Jay's observation a commonplace occurence?
