dale_schreiner
Today, we put our dog to sleep. She developed an immune system disease and it became quickly obvious that she was unlikely to live a worthwhile, pain-free life. Muffin was only four, yet in that time she brought my wife and me unbelieveable joy and happiness. It is in this spirit that we'd like to share a couple of pictures of her with you and ask that, if you wish, you'd also post pictures of those canine family members who give us so much while asking for so little. Here's to our dogs! Dale and Sarah<div></div>

m_.
My deep sympathy, Dale and Sarah. It reminds me the time I had to put my cat to sleep last summer. Hang in there.
todd frederick
I very recently experience what you experienced. Attached is the last photo taken of my bulldog, Rosie, only about a week before her death. She was not young for a bulldog, and started to develop breathing problems. A few months ago there was a similar problem and the vets tried to help her. This time, I just tried to comfort her, keep her comfortable, hand feed her soft food, and hope for the best, but it was just her time. The night before her death, she made the effort to come into my bedroom, I put her on the bed, she struggled for breath all night, and in the morning I helped her off the bed. Within seconds she was dead, with no struggle. I do think it was congestive heart failure. I do not say this in sadness since I knew it was her time, and she made the effort to be with me for one more night.<div></div>
stephen_w.
Dale, I love dogs. Dogs have a window on our soul, like babies. If one has a good soul, dogs and children instantly recogize it. I'm sympathetic to your loss. I've had a similar exxperience.

todd frederick
All of this is so difficult and your loving thoughts are most appreciated. It is easier to take your pet to the vet and have him/her put-down, but to hold your loving companion while she dies is something very different. Rosie was not able to stand, but could open her eyes an look up at me from the floor, and Iwould feed her some food by hand, which was gratefully accepted. I won't believe that these loving beings don't have souls. Blessings to all of you who have expenienced this. Thank you. Todd

tom h.
My favorrite "doggy" quote- "Near this spot are deposited the remains of one who possessed Beauty without Vanity, Strength without Insolence, Courage without Ferocity, and all the Virtues of Man, without his Vices. This Praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery if inscribed over human ashes, is but a just tribute to the Memory of Boatswain, a Dog." -George Gordon, Lord Byron, "Inscription on the Monument of a Newfoundland Dog" sorry for your loss(es)- they sure have a way of growing on you.
