EOS camera for the Auto Bellows

Recommended Posts

Hello, Maybe someone has already researched this and can do my

homework for me? Can someone recommend an EOS Camera and off-camera-

flash for my Auto Bellows. I already have the FD-EOS macro adapter

and the Canon Auto Bellows, plus a macro-photo lens. The camera

features I?d like are; stopped down TTL flash AE, depth of field

preview, mirror lock-up, slow flash sync like 1/15 or 1/30 and

interchangeable focusing screens. I?d like to stay under $400 for

the camera, flash and synch cord because I?m only gaining the TTL-

OTF flash capabilities using the EOS camera over my FD body. I

really know nothing about the EOS cameras but have been using the

older manual ones for a while. I?ve had great success with the

bellows and my F-1N but would like the opportunity to quickly take a

photo without the manual calculations if necessary. Hence the desire

for TTL. Thanks in advance for any input.

Stopped down TTL flash AE and slow flash sync are available on any EOS camera. A lot of them have depth of field preview and mirror pre-fire, but true mirror lock up is much less common. Interchangeable focusing screens are/were only offered on the 6xx series, 5/A2, 3 and 1 series, but not all types of screens are available for all of these bodies. Staying under $400 for the camera, flash and synch cord might be difficult.

I think a used EOS 5/A2/A2E would fit all, or at least most of your requirements.

Why not buy a T90 & 300tl flash?<P>I'd look for a cheap one that needed a CLA then have Ketil Johansen's mirror lockup kit installed when that was being done. I've used my T90's ttl flash in stopdown since I bought them in 86 -- works great.

I've had two bummer T90's and don't want another. Plus, this get my foot in the EOS door. The cameras that I thought of first were the 620, and the A2. I was going to ask about a really small flash unit but with TTL I guess it doesn't matter. I've been doing guide numbers and inverse square so long I forgot the basics of TTL. I'll search more on the accessory screens for either camera.

Maybe I should have asked what is the best EOS camera to do manual focus with? Is it the EF-M? I'll search more on that one too. Thanks.
