affen_kot
i have a 1975 berlebach from the former DDR, and i am having difficulties getting it to mate with a 1975 cambo SC. basically the center screw on the berlebach is too small for the corresponding female part on the rail clamp. was/am i misinformed to think that the same screw that attaches securely to all my other cameras, from my N80 down to a 1952 german belows folder, would also take a 4x5 rail mount? anyway, i know next to nothing about LF at the moment, and my question would be: what can i do to remedy this? they've been in the same room for two days, and they still won't mate. thanks for any thoughts in advance. cheers...affen
john_mcneely
I thought a Berlebach was some maybe some kind of exotic bird.
wim_van_velzen
That is correct. This Berlebach has three legs and is therefore quite rare among the other birds.
Wim
stefan_geschke
There are two sizes of tripod mounts. Smaller cameras tend to have the smaller mounts, bigger cameras the bigger mounts. It looks like your tripod has the smaller screw and your camera has the bigger mount. There exists an adapter that screws into the tripod mount of your camera, which brings the size down to the size of the screw on your tripod. This problem has nothing to do with Berlebach (they still produce excellent and relatively cheap wooden tripods, it should be no problem to look them up on the web). You should be able to get the adapter at any (professional) camera shop.

michael_veit
"This Berlebach has three legs" No wonder it can't mate, sometimes just TWO get in the way!
brian_ellis3
Sounds like your tripod screw is designed for a 3/8 opening (European size) and your Cambo has a 1/4-20 opening (American size). Bogen makes a gizmo that you can put on the screw to reduce it to 1/4-20 size, costs about $5. The real problem exists in the opposite situation, 3/8 screw and 1/4-20 hole, which fortunately isn't your situation.

gauthier
I case you ever want to consult the Berlebach site and order something from their new line, their address is: http://www.berlebach.de Excellent, rock solids tripods - the company has been making wooden tripods since 1898 and it certainly deserves better recognition in North America. murrayatuptowngallery
3/8-16 (?) to 1/4-20 adapters. One of the larger camera stores in my area sells the adapters for no more than $1 - I bought two for a Russian folder, lost them before I used them and bought more. Good thing I didn't have to mail-order them again. Murray
