jon_manchester
I recently aquried a Leitz Focomat IIa. The enlarger is complete w/ the exception of the neg. carrier masks. I plan to search for the original masks; however, until I find them I'll need to find another (temporary) solution. My question is, how are the masks used w/ this enlarger? i.e are the masks placed under the carrier or do they fit between the glass? I'm thinking of making some temporary masks from rubylith(sp). Any advise is appreciated and I open to suggestions... Thanks Jon
jim_reed
Jon: I don't have my Focomat IIa any longer, so I'm doing this from memory but, NO, the mask does not fit between the glass plates of the negative carrier. The mask is a separate metal plate (roughly 4x5 inches I would say) that slides into a slot just below (or was it just above?) the negative carrier. If you look at the enlarger with the negative carrier in place, you should be able to see the slot where the mask slides in. Hope this helps.
