Wyo. photographer critical after attack in S. Africa

Recommended Posts

"An international adventure photographer, who has survived working in war zones,

is fighting for his life after his vehicle was hit by a rock in Cape Town, local

newspapers reported.

Bobby Model, 34, was visiting Cape Town from Kenya where he is based, was in a

critical condition on life support in hospital, the newspapers said Saturday.

Last year Model, 34, was named by the National Geographic Society as one of its

"emerging explorers," an honor extended each year to "dynamic personalities who

are making a significant contribution to world knowledge through exploration."

He was part of a Wyoming team who successfully attempted the first free ascent

of the East Face of Pakistan's Trango Tower that included the late Todd Skinner

plus Mike Lilygren and Jeff Bechtel, all of Lander, Wyoming. A photograph of him

appeared on the cover of National Geographic when the magazine published an

account of that expedition."
