shoppix
Nice to be outside again?! some very nice, dramatic scenery there. I'm shooting crash-b sprints in Boston on Sunday for Row2K website.
milton-chris
Wow, Michael, NICE shots! I tried shooting some rowing end of last Summer and found it a real problem with the glare off the water. Thankfully, I shot RAW and have improved with PSE, so might be able to salvage some of the shots. No way to get behind the rowers to have sun behind me. Again, NICE shots. milton-chris
In fact, rather than going to work, I decided to puttz with one of the shots . . .<div></div>

milton-chris
Shot April 2007 with my XTi and Tamron 200-500 - they were a good 400 yards away, and that is about the center 1/3 of the shot.
mharris
Thanks everyone. Chris I may try and hook up with one of the guys in the powerboat or try and position my drift boat next time. I shot these from the shore with a Tokina 80-400 and a Nikon 300 f4
mharris
Chris that's a nice shot, I really like the detail.

mharris
Someone caught crabs?
daniel_harris
Great shots Michael. Catching a crab in rowing is when oar doesn't cut the water cleanly and you get yanked around and out of sync.
mharris
Oh man Daniel, I didn't know that at all. I don't know anything about rowing, I'm still trying to figure out why those boats don't turn over.
mark u
Bow and Two are missing in the second shot... taking a swim? Rowers who catch crabs can literally be thrown from the boat if they aren't properly strapped in.
ericf1
Nice shots Michael I had to drag my wife down to see them. She is a rower here in Northern MI and not too many folks rowing this time of year. These were shot back in the summer...<div></div>

mharris
That is very cool Eric, are those boats as unstable as they look? I'll get some more shots for your wife, I shot in that canyon almost every day and the rowing team is always down there.
ericf1
I think her shell is 13" wide at the water level. While I consider myself fairly athletic and coordinated, I was able to get about 10 yards before I just about dumped it and was ready to give up. That canyon setting is great and no SID to chase you away.
mharris
Eric I just picked up my new driftboat a few days ago. That's a boat that's impossible to dump. Big, fat steelhead are running up the river as we speak.
daniel_harris
Michael, looks liket the Snake River, correct? Great shots BTW. I would like to see a shot of the steelies you're catching.
ericf1
The steelhead won't be in the rivers in large numbers here in Northern, MI for several weeks, but I can't wait to get after them. Tightlines!
