happypoo
Hello. I was shooting some silhouettes with my D70, and while most of them turned out fine, a couple of them had this big white streak through the middle. It wasn't glare or anything; it looked very digital and had jagged, sharp edges. At first I didn't really pay attention to them, but now I'm worried that something in my camera/lens might have been damaged. Would this streak be a cause for concern? It only showed up in a few pictures. Thanks!

Jerry_
If you included the 'sun ball' in your image, it is a little problem with too much light for the camera's sensor. If you read the instruction manual, your camera probably is a happy camper with the sun behind you. A silhouette generally means the subject is blocking the sun, but if you try for a star effect with some sun peeking through, your D70 may not be able to handle recording the extreme light on the sensor. [Film may be a better route to go...] Plus zoom lenses (at times) have problems shooting directly into the sun.
happypoo
Thanks, Gerald. I think the sun ball might have peeked through, because the subject of my silhouette was moving. Is there a risk that I might have permanently damaged something by allowing the sun ball to hit the sensor?
phule
The technical name for the phenom is sensor blooming. << Is there a risk that I might have permanently damaged something by allowing the sun ball to hit the sensor? >> No.
