melinda_ortley
I would like to attend an intense beginning digital wedding photography weekend workshop? Can anyone point me in the right direction(s)? Thanks. Melinda
ellis_vener_photography
Having been to both weekend and week long workshops, my opinion is that wekend workshops aren't worth the trouble unless all you are looking for is a very superficial overview. wedding-photography-denver
As Ellis says, mostly the weekend ones seem more oriented to those who seek inspiration/ideas, not so much the basic skills etc.
david_schilling___chicago_
I don't know that there is a single ideal weekend workshop for you but I do have a couple of suggestions. NAPP will frequently offer day-long workshops in Photoshop skills, their info here: http://www.photoshopuser.com/ David Ziser has a kick-start training DVD: http://www.digitalwakeupcall.com/ Ed Pierce: http://www.edpierceseminars.com/ Be sure to check into his 6 DVD traing set on "Digital Wedding Techniques" and http://www.shootsmarter.com/ Also, check your local Community College, they will typically offer both credit and noncreedit digital photography training. Good luck.
pclancy
I think you might get more out of assisting a wedding photographer for a weekend. Offer your sevices for free. Craig's list is a good place to start.
richard_beisigl
I attended several weekend wedding photography workshops. One of the best was by the late Monte Zuker, he did not short change any of us who attended his workshops. I also went to one of Ed Pierce's workshops, and again, it was worth every penny. In all, I went to about five of these weekend workshops, and found them to be great. I did not feel cheated out of anything. By the way, a couple of Montes former students/ employees are going to continue offering photography workshops. Richard B.
lisa h
You can find some wedding workshops on this link: http://www.digitalweddingforum.com/seminars_by_dwf_members There are a lot of wedding photographers offering workshops now (for a lot of money)... some will be great and some will not be, so do your research carefully (make sure it will be geared toward the level you are at and focusing on what you are interested in learning right now). P.S. I am not clear if you are looking for something based on the digital aspect, or just want a general wedding photography workshop?
melinda_ortley
Thanks for the ideas and links. I'm looking for a digital aspect wedding workshop. My brother shoots primarily medium format and i'm just now switching to digital. Between the two of us, i'm hoping to offer the "best of both worlds". Again, I really appreciate everyone contributing.
bruce_stenman1
Melinda, Before you start thinking about shooting weddings you really want to become proficient with your digital gear (much much less exposure latitude than anything other than chrome films), flash (TTL is not nearly as effective with digital sensors) white balance, image editing workflow and image processing applications like Lightroom and Photoshop, album design, etc. It is a much harder transition than most people appreciate and with wedding photography there is no time to think about what you are doing and no opportunities to retake blown images. bakarichavanu
Glad to see this thread because I had the exact same question. I don't know of any good workshops personally, but I have gotten a lot from David Ziser and Ed Pierce's DVDs. I'm to hoping to attend one of Ziser's workshops which are both comparatively affordable and useful. I say that from what I've seen that Ziser offers on his blog site and in his DVDs. I also recently got a copy of Ed Pierce's set of DVDs about on-location photography and am finding it really helpful as well. He does talk about his equipment that he sells, but he also provides good, practical insight about reading light and how to manipulate it. Anyway, I hope there is more feedback to this question. I'm looking for a good 4-5 day workshop here on the West coast. Hopefully someone can suggest a few that might be useful.
betty_brown3
Hi there, i know how you feel...there are so many workshops out there particularly in California where I am that I'm not too sure which one to go to...I think I can only afford one and so I want to get my money's worth. There 's one I'm looking at right now which seems to cover everything I need...including a portfolio review and business techniques....and I feel like I will have a good set of images to take away from the weekend so that I can make my basic website.I read about them in Rangefinder magazine which I got at the WPPI convention. Here's the link I found http://www.eephoto.com/index.php/dream_team_workshops.htmlGood luck!
