Turned down by Model Mayhem

I recently tried to get an account on Model Mayhem but was turned down for

this reason

 

"Your admittance to Model Mayhem has been denied due to the following reason

(s):

You guys have it simple. Just use models in your visual art."

 

What the heck. I just wanted to learn about how to take pictures of models and

get experience and at the same time help someone out. I wasn't going to charge

anyone for my time or anything. What do you guys and gales think?

I think they try to make sure you are not some crazy stalker. I betcha a lot of people try to get accounts with no pictures just so they can look at models pictures and send them messages, try to set up meetings.

 

If you have even a semi compentent portfolio it doesnt necessarily mean youre not a stalker, but at least they keep the spam and nonsense down by having some requirements. Don't take it personally, just take some pictures of a friend, sister, brother, whoever, and try again.

I've never heard of that site until now.<p/>

I went up there and looking at some of the sample photos and their captions, it looks like some of those girls are prostitutes or have a porn site. I mean, here's a quote: <i>"I can make you want me without ever meeting me![more exclamation points but the photo.net site won't allow it] comments,TAGs,FR show me the love MM"</i><p/><p/>Are those folks legit?

According to the Merriam Webster 11th Collegiate Dictionary:

 

mayhem -

 

1a. willful and permanent deprivation of a bodily member resulting in the impairment of a person's fighting ability

 

1b. willful and permanent crippling, mutilation or disfigurement of any part of the body

 

2. needless or willful damage or violence

 

"Model Mayhem"?

 

I would consider a "membership application rejection" by such an organization to be a compliment...just doesn't line-up with what I want to achieve with photography.

A Redneck is....

some of them are strippers, some of them are ugly, and some of them are qualified models, just like we have rank beginners, people who have absolutely no eye and qualified, competent photographers on photo.net.

 

That site, like this one, is all about what you put in and what you expect to receive. Everyone I have met from there is at least repectful and straightfoward so far, so I have no complaints.

That site's standards are pretty low, in fact I'm surprised to learn thay actually have any.

 

If they turned you down I'd just try again. Maybe you caught a moderator on a bad day.

 

You're not missing out on much by not being a member.

I'm suprised I would ever defend that site, but its a lot different than here. I am not sure if there is a forum, but if there is, I have never seen it. The standards there are set by the members, so if someone wants to shoot with you, you can say yes or no. Its really that simple.

 

Its not, however, a place to learn how to shoot, its a place that allows you to find people who are interested in having their picture taken. You can learn from that, but don't expect highbrow discussion on lighting techniques.

 

Once again, don't expect more than what it is and you wont be disappointed. From many accounts, its the best place to find models to shoot for free or TFP on the internet, and if thats what you need, it is hard to find a better suited website in my opinion.

I logged into it the other day on a whim. I was not impressed with the so-called models, perhaps a few were workable, but wow, I really can't take them seriously with the pictures some of the women have posted of themselves. Most of them look like something you'd see on myspace; very similar to teen-self-portraiture. I was kind of taken aback as I expected better. Don't know if I want to bother with it.

 

Try OneModelPlace.com .. or your local university art departement. Models are really not hard to find, what's hard to find is a model serious about helping you with photography.

That selection basically means you didn't submit 4 decent photos of humans. MM does not permit non-people photography. That's what deviantart is for. MM is a networking site for models and photographers of all skilltypes. There are forums-- All different sorts, with lots of pro photographers willing to lend a hand and help with questions.

I know that I am somewhat late to this discussion but here is my two cents anyways! Modelmayhem is not a place to learn about photography, In fact I am not even sure what MM is good for! It used to be a great networking site and it can still be if you have the time to purge through so much crap! A friend of mine who happens to be a great photographer once said: Giving credit to MM as a professional networking site is like giving credit to rooster for the sunrise!

I know they denied me as being a model but most of my pictures are creative pictures too and not nudity. I mostly

dress up in costumes in a tasteful way also. most people I show my pictures to tend to like it and think it's a

cool idea to do themes such as gothic and fairy-tails. Also even though I wear make-up but you could still see my

face a body clearly. I even add in pictures with out make up in it too and still don't know why they denied me. I

followed the rules and everything and if something that seem too mature I flag it as mature content. Mostly it's

the picture with blood on it but hey it's not even scary at all and people said it was a cool picture. I know I'm

not the only model who like to do this kind of stuff but still I hate the fact that they added in people who took

pictures with their cell phone with the mirror shot, the pikura photo booth and people who can't even model and

not even pretty at all or stylish at all. I swear if they were added in why wasn't I. I wish they tell me what

they want instead of saying you are deny please re-submit and figure it out yourself and don't contact us to help

you out because we would ignore your request. Was my pictures too weird for them. But still I saw weirder things

on model mayhem. I just want to be a alternative model who do creative photos that's why I wear costumes and

create themes. If they want me to be a cheap slut like everyone they recently added than fine I don't want to be

a part of them.

I was hoping to use MM to help me turn my photography hobby into more a potential for a career -- we all have to start somewhere, right? I wanted to find models and do TF*, to help build my portfolio and experience.</p>

<p>I've been rejected by MM. I signed up to be a photoshop wizard and I know I am better than a lot of the others on there that are "so called" wizards. Most of them look like they painted over their faces on another layer and turned the opacity down to 50% and USED the blur tool! Yeah...and I get denied twice. I don't get it? <br>

OH and I'm sorry but if you just change the contrast you are not a photoshop wizard.<br>

The models on there..lol..where do I start? Most of them look like they are cheap and would do anything for a dollar. Myspace pictures! Not tasteful at all. Most lie about their weight by at least 20 pounds. </p>

<p>Love how some people say "most" since a non-member can't see all of the photos anyway and I would love to know how your statistical survey was run.</p>

<p>That said, MM is free with the basic account, if you are in an area where you need to meet some models it is a good free resource. There are agency models on there, there are are alot of successful photographers as well. It takes all sorts to make a community.<br>

Whereas, with OMP, there is a minimum price to pay as a photographer registering on the site.</p>

<p>I agree ! I have JUST been denied today. I was furious, I had been contemplating for a while if I should make an account on there or not and when I decide I would try it out they reject me with the same unprofessional term of: </p>

<p>It's a good thing this topic has been brought up because I felt like poo until I started reading some of these comments as well as your situation, Josh.</p>

<p>It honestly pissed me off! I WANT to become a model. YES I am new at these things. But I am NOT stupid and am actually artistically inclined. I take myself very seriously and carryout a professional manner in everything I do. I am reliable and easy to direct. Modeling is not the only creative outlet I have and so, filling out all the friggen criteria that was needed did not make sense to why others with barely any content on their profiles have been accepted <em>or</em> still have a profile that exists although they haven't signed in since 2005 *rolling eyes*. For any model, photoshop wizard, photographer, MUA, or whatever the case may be I am sure we all agree so what if our first images submitted are amateur? Isn't the point of making an MM account to GAIN experience? and "Build up your portfolio" like the damn site even proclaims. </p>

<p>And to those who are defending the site... To each it's own but i'm sure if you were on the denied side of the film you would feel the same. PISSED OFF. CONFUSED. AND SHOCKED AT SUCKY WORK THAT HAS BEEN APPROVED. Because I was not accepted does not mean i'm going to talk a bunch of crap but really I know, that you know what ART really is.</p>

<p>And yes, MAJORITY of the photos on that website are NOT artistic... they are borderline and passed PORNOGRAPHIC. *gross and not tasteful at all* If you're going to have a nude model direct them creatively NOT sexually persuasive in PORNSTAR gear.</p>

<p>Notice a few of these folks complaining abount MM sign up here just to whine, it is their only post, and then poof...they're gone never contributing anything positive or constructive to Photonet.<br>

Go somewhere else if you have nothing to contribute here. This thread is around 8 months old!<br>
