mike_mcgee
I am getting ready to travel on a commercial flight and I was wondering if the xray machine would mess with my film in the camera? One more thing, when you say getting your film developed at a lab do you mean walmart lab are the they good? And if I am going to try to take pictures of my t ball team where would I send the film to have like wallets and 5x7's 8x10's etc made, do they do that at walmart also or do I send it off? Labs that would do like magazine covers and the such. Thank you for your help.
hayward
I travel all the time for business and have my film (exposed and unexposed) in my carry-on. I've never had an kind of developing problem with it. Some photo magazines say you can ask the security folks to do a hand inspection, but a) they get a bad attitude and b) you won't have a problem with it being scanned, so why bother? The carry-on scanners are said to be safe for film up to 800 ISO. The checked baggage scanners are said to fry film of a lower speed, but I've never had that happen either, although I rarely put any in my checked baggage. Some folks swear by Walmart, but they are the absolute worst I've ever tried in my area. If the shots are important to you, look in your phone book for a non-chain "pro lab" in your area. If you can't find one, you might try Ritz or Wolf (same company) -- they aren't great, but are a step up from the drugstores and retailers. Usually, your are alos better off using the two day service at these places vs. the one hour. GOod luck.
