lbi115l
Hello, I was wondering of what people's views are on the top photo schools in the country, and specifically in the North East / East Coast. I'm already thinking about RIT. But in terms of faculty, cirriculum, facilities, etc. what do people recommend? And what do you think are the best? Thanks. daniel_kim4
I hear RISD is a great school. How bout Chicago art institute? Parsons?
james_megargee
Not all photography schools are created equal. For example compairing RIT to SVA or RISD is like compairing apples to kiwis. They have a totally different focus to their programs. RIT is and has always been a program that focuses on "professional" photography from both the technical and the creative. Their facilities are second to none and the equipment that is available to their students is the same. SVA has a rep of being a more fine art/ documentary program. Their facilities are enough. But they are in NYC which gives you access to a large professional community. RISD is almost exclusively Fine Art. You should really be asking yourselves what type of life to you intend to be living AFTER graduation and make you choice of school based upon your answer. In other words - which school will prepare you for the life style you desire?
lbi115l
Well, the end product is intended to be fine art photography - but I intend to (attempt to) work as a commercial photographer in the interim - that's assuming I can ever make it in fine art. But anyway, the idea is an education for commercial photography, but also mindful of the artistic view. I live in northern New Jersey, and go into the city quite often, but know that I would not be happy living there.
lbi115l
How about schools on the other side of the country, where it's warmer? Like california and southwest?
