peng_kit_wong
Hi folks, My plan to the Maldives has been canceled due to the disaster caused by the tidal waves.. what a pity. Well, I have changed my destination and I will be going to New Caledonia tomorrow. Just checked the weather forecast and I was very, very, very surprised and disappointed that it will rain everyday and there will be no sun at all! Initially I plan to bring Fuji Velvia, Fortia, Kodak VS and NPH and Reala with me.What films will you guys bring for a rainny day shooting? Please advise. I might bring some Kodak Gold as well, still considering. Thanks. Kit
stevemarcus
IMO, a really great color negative film for cloudy/overcast conditions. Saturation of 400UC is pleasing but by no means over-the-top. It has a very fine grain structure too.
scott_eaton
For Rainy day shooting I'd carry a moderate contrast 400 speed print film like NPH or UC 400, and strong 100 speed slide film. Personally I'd throw the Fortia and Kodak VS in the trash, and keep the Reala on hand for when it's sunny.
chris haake
Bring the Kodak Bright Sun (nee "Gold 100") for overcast conditions. It's pretty high in saturation and contrast, making it great on those drab days. UC400 is also a good choice...matter of taste. Reala won't have a lot of life if its really overcast/rainy, but it's fantastic under sunny/lightly overcast days. NPH would also probably disappoint under heavy overcast conditions. Haven't shot enough VC to give the call, though I've seen some fairly surreal colors under lightly overcast skies (if surreal colors are what you want; if not, stay clear). Have fun. r.t. dowling
Unless you'll be taking photos of caucasian humans, Agfa Ultra 100 might be good to have in your bag. For higher speed, I would probably use Kodak 400UC instead of NPH.
albert lui
Another good performer in overcast light is UC100.
phil_v.
With the caveat that I've never used the pro films mentioned by the others, I've gotten a lot of really nice rainy-day pictures using Kodak Royal Gold 400... I realize it's just an amateur film, but I'm an amateur and I sure like that film. Regardless of your film-choice, definitely get yourself a weather-proof canera-bag for shooting in the rain! r.t. dowling
Royal Gold has been discontinued, at least in the U.S. and Canada and most parts of Europe that I'm aware of. 400UC is similar (and better in many ways).
