Slashdot article

  1. Slashdot article "The Nonphotorealistic Camera" is getting quite a bit
of attention... Hope the server can hold on through it.

  2. A mixed blessing.

  3. The article went up on slashdot.org at 5:50AM Eastern time, and since then we have received about 30,000 hits on the article -- in about 3 and half hours. This is a lot for a "Learn" section article, and most of it was in the last hour or so as people get on their computers.

Our server has been handling about 1.5 million page impressions per day for our regular traffic. The slashdot link is probably going to ramp up to maybe 20K to 30K page impressions per hour on top of our normal traffic. All of this means that we are going to get a bit of exercise today. Too bad there aren't any good ads on that page.

  4. How long does it take to change the ads? (neophyte here)

  5. When I hear Slashdot I think of a horde of elephants stampeding over any Web site in their path :)

  6. Now, now.... dont insult the elephants.

  7. We haven't been slashdotted in almost 3 years so this is a good exercise though I had no idea when I put up the article we would get this kind of reaction...

  8. Just be glad most of them didn't leave the usual "This sucks", "no you suck! RTFA!", "they use windows to do it, it sucks!", "I'll bet his computer crashed 10 times before it was done, hahaha" (+5172, Funny) comments...
