Service Manual for Nikor 28-105/3.5-4.5 AF Lens

All,

 

I would like to know if anyone knows where I can get a copy of the

service/repair manual for Nikon 28-105/3.5-4.5 AF lens. How easy or difficult

it is to open up the lens and to assemble it back. I do not have any

authorized Nikon repair center in my city.

Why would you need a service manual? I had one and used it with a F100. The focus errors were so bad, I got rid of the lens.

I bought this lens new in 2000 just before my trip to Japan. My photos taken with the N70 turned out sharp and contrasty, no problem with the lens at all. I would suggest sending the lens in to a repair shop.

I find the 28-105 a joy to use. At f/6.7 and smaller, it's the perfect snapshot lens, which is what I use it for when I need something dumb and sharp.

I've never come across any discussion of service manuals for lenses before. What problem are you having with the lens that makes you want to disassemble it?

 

Taking a lens apart might be fun if it were destined for the trash, but I suspect that a zoom lens is too complex for the average handyman to repair.

Thanks to all who responded. I can see two small patches of fungus (the beginning stage) from the front element of the lens. And I wanted to know if there was some way I could repair it myself. I stay in India and there are only two authorized Nikon Service centres in Inida. :(
